A vet is preparing to walk four marathons, in four nations, in four consecutive days to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

John Campbell from Bath aims to join fellow walkers in completing the March For Men challenge next month.

Epic endeavour

Mr Campbell will complete the first 26.2-mile event in Glasgow on Thursday 5 September, before doing it all again in Belfast and Cardiff ahead of the grand finale in London on Sunday 8 September.

After prostate surgery, Mr Campbell retired from full-time practice at Bath Veterinary Group in 2015, and now works as the veterinary surgeon at Pet Drugs Online.

‘Raise awareness’

Mr Campbell said: “I am walking in memory of my friend Giles Penfold, who was just my age when he sadly died last year.

“Importantly, this event will help raise awareness and funds for a charity doing fantastic work to help beat this disease, which kills one man every 45 minutes in the UK.”

‘Proud’

The vet has been preparing for the challenge alongside his dog and “training partner” Tess for the past few months.

Mr Campbell said: “I am really looking forward to this challenge – not just the walking, but also ‘hopping’ from city to city – and will be proud to be joined by my stepson Jack on the London leg.”
